Art for motion infographic that details the complex investigation that occurs when there is a foodborn illness outbreak.
This infographic, developed to highlight FDA's role in tracing the origins of foodborn illness outbreaks, took years to develop and went through many iterative phases. The multi-agency led process of tracing foodborn illness outbreaks is complex and layered, so the steps needed to be clearly illustrated in order to depict the critical part FDA plays in keeping food safe.
The project stalled a few times and lay dormant for a couple of years, owing to administrative changes, before finally starting to coalesce into something resembling its final form. Around this time, our team had begun working with a local animator (Bronson Hoover) and thought this project could benefit from his talents. The resulting motion graphic, in which the animator also did the voice-over, is one I'm proud to have worked on.
Included here are some early roughs where the team and I were working with subject matter experts to capture the scope of the outbreaks and investigations.
